BIS QCO 2026 for electrical accessories: what changed?
The January 2026 amendment removes the insulating-tape entry for IS 7809 (Part 3/Section 1):1986 from Table 1 of the Electrical Accessories QCO. Cable trunking and ducting under IS 14927 (Part 2):2001 already appeared in the original order. Check the applicable standard, commencement provisions and any later exemptions for the specific product.
What the order requires
The original Electrical Accessories (Quality Control) Order, 2023 was published in January 2024. Its Table 1 already included cable trunking and ducting under IS 14927 (Part 2):2001 and non-interlock switch-socket-outlets under IS 15787:2008. The amendment dated 13 January 2026 removes the listed pressure-sensitive insulating-tape entry. It does not introduce a new trunking requirement.
Products covered by the order must conform to the applicable Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark under a BIS licence, subject to the commencement provisions and exemptions. Match the product, standard and licence scope rather than relying on an ISI logo alone.
The original order specifies general commencement six months after Gazette publication, with nine months for small enterprises and twelve months for micro enterprises. It also exempts domestically manufactured goods meant for export. The BIS index links later notifications, including February 2026 import and purchase-order exemptions with documentary conditions. Apply the relevant provisions to the particular consignment.
| Product | Indian Standard | Where the requirement is listed |
|---|---|---|
| Switch-socket-outlets (non-interlock type) | IS 15787:2008 | Original order, Table 1; check its commencement provisions and applicable exemptions |
| Cable trunking and ducting systems for electrical installations | IS 14927 (Part 2):2001 | Original order, Table 1; check its commencement provisions and applicable exemptions |
Verify the licence and product scope
Ask for the BIS licence number and the product standard on the delivery documents. Use the official BIS licence search to match the manufacturer, factory, licence status and covered product scope to the goods being supplied.
Keep the licence details and relevant test or conformity documents with the project record. A licence for one product family does not establish certification for every item from the same manufacturer.
What to send with a specification enquiry
Send Electrolite the product description, required Indian Standard, manufacturer reference and quantities. Include the project specification and any required conformity documents so the quotation identifies the intended product clearly.
