Common questions

Why does solar need special DC cable?
A rooftop array runs at up to 1500 V DC, in direct sunlight, across a 25-year design life. Solar cable to IS 17293 uses electron-beam cross-linked insulation rated for UV, ozone and temperature extremes. Ordinary house wire degrades and becomes a fire risk.
Can I use a normal MCB on the DC side?
No. Direct current does not cross zero the way AC does, so the arc does not self-extinguish. A DC circuit breaker is built with a different arc-quenching design. Using an AC device on a DC circuit is a serious fire risk.
