For Solar EPCs and installers working in Vadodara

Rooftop solar

A rooftop array is one of the most electrically hostile environments in a building. It runs at high DC voltage, in full sun, through twenty-five years of thermal cycling and monsoon, on a surface nobody visits between commissioning and the first fault.

It is also the part of a solar installation most often specified with AC components, because they are cheaper and available. That substitution is not a corner cut; it is a fire risk, and it is the reason a meaningful share of rooftop fires trace back to the DC side.

We carry the DC-rated components across four brands, so an installer can source the whole balance of system from one order rather than assembling it from whoever happens to stock each part.

Why AC components fail on the DC side

Alternating current crosses zero a hundred times a second, and an arc drawn across opening contacts extinguishes itself at each crossing. Direct current never crosses zero, so the arc sustains until something stops it. A DC-rated breaker uses a different arc-quenching design specifically for this. An AC breaker on a DC circuit will eventually fail to interrupt, and when it does it fails as a sustained arc inside the enclosure.

What we supply for this

Solar DC cable to IS 17293

APAR and RR Kabel, tinned copper with electron-beam cross-linked XLPO insulation, rated 1.5 kV DC and built for ultraviolet, ozone and temperature extremes. Also compliant with EN 50618 and IEC 62930 where a project specifies to European standards.

DC circuit breakers

Siemens 5SL5, rated 220 V DC single pole through 880 V DC four pole, with 10 kA breaking capacity. Siemens also supplies DC breakers specifically for solar applications on request.

Photovoltaic surge protection

The Siemens 5SD74836 protects the inverter on the DC side up to 1170 V, with the AC side protected separately by a Type 2 arrester. A rooftop array is often the tallest conductive structure on the building, which makes it the most exposed.

IP67 junction enclosures

Precision all-weather boxes in polycarbonate and ABS, CIPET tested to IP67 and rated from −40 °C to +90 °C. A sealed box on a Gujarat roof in May routinely exceeds the rating of a standard enclosure.

Guides

Send us the drawing or the schedule and we will specify it.

We will tell you what the specification needs, where it can safely be value-engineered, and where it should not be.
